The king stands under a simple canopy. He is dressed in a green hooded robe and holds a blue falcon on his right fist, feeding it with his left. He stands against a ruby ground intersected by an inscription strip with Lombardic lettering: S(anctus) [OSW]ALDUS. St Oswald was King of Northumbria and was martyred at the hands of the pagan king Penda in 642. The cartoon is identical to that used in 2b, although the figure is far more complete.
