Vested as a deacon, St Vincent holds a book in his left hand and blesses with his right. He stands on a grassy mound, between the pillars of an architectural canopy with green leafy capitals. He stands in front of a blue background decorated with large trefoil leaves. Outer borders of fruiting vine. Beneath his feet is the inscription S(ANC)TUS WINCENT(IUS). He was the proto-martyr of Spain and according to some sources, suffered similar torments to those of St Lawrence. His cult was widely observed, but especially in Abingdon, where Edmund Rich was also highly revered.
