The Great East Window

1a The Archeflamen, King Ebrauk and the Flamen, encircled by the walls of York.

In the time of King David, King Ebrauk founded York, with its first Temple and its city walls. The story of the mythical King Ebrauk was made popular by Geoffrey of Monmoth’s 12th-century History of the Kings of Britain. The arms of the city of York and Bishop Walter Skirlaw decorate pennants flying from the walls.
