This panel shows St Cuthbert arriving at Melrose monastery to become a monk. He is greeted by the abbot Boisil and another monk. He has given his horse to the attendant behind him, to signify that he has renounced secular life and his noble status. The attendant has been heavily restored and now resembles a monk with a saint’s head.
