This panel is the second of two showing St Cuthbert hosting an angel disguised as a man. The angel is seated at the table, while St Cuthbert retrieves bread which is being freshly baked. In Bede’s written version of the story, Cuthbert returns to the table to find that the angel has disappeared, but has left heavenly bread for Cuthbert.
