This panel is the second of two that show St Cuthbert being provided with food by an eagle, when travelling to preach. Here, St Cuthbert and his young assistant are shown splitting the fish in half lengthways, to share it with the eagle. He holds one half of the fish, while his assistant offers the other to the eagle. This scene was probably included to emphasise the importance of humility, charity and fairness.
