This panel is one of eleven designed and made by J.W. Knowles under the direction of Rev. J.T. Fowler in 1886-8. It shows the Abbess Aelflede asking St Cuthbert to tell her how long her brother, King Ecgfrith, would rule, and whether Cuthbert would accept his future election bishop. Cuthbert is shown predicting that King Ecgfrith would die a year later, and that he would only serve as bishop for two years.
