This panel shows St Cuthbert healing a young child. The child’s mother kneels before Cuthbert, who holds the child in his arms and heals him with a kiss. To the left, a priest, a monk and a layman witness the miracle. Bede says the miracle occurred while Cuthbert was travelling within his diocese, to console and minister to those affected by an outbreak of plague.
