Henry V (1386-1422) was King of England 1413-22. The donor of the window, Bishop Thomas Langley, served as a royal counsellor and diplomat to Henry V. The king is shown kneeling before a prayer-desk (prie-dieu), facing the large figure of St Cuthbert, with his hands raised in prayer.
Thank you for exploring York Minster. Your support is appreciated now more than ever. York Minster contains the largest collection of medieval stained glass in the country, with beautiful windows dating back as far as the 12th century. Currently, around 50% of these have no protection, leaving them open to corrosion and decay.
With your help, the Cathedral is working with York Glaziers Trust to install state-of-the-art protective glazing to save these irreplaceable works of art for future generations.
If you can, please consider sharing this page and donating to support this vital work. Thank you!
