This panel is one of eleven designed and made by J.W. Knowles under the direction of Rev. J.T. Fowler in 1886-8. It shows Cuthbert dropping his psalter into the sea, after boarding a boat to flee Ireland with his mother. The lips of the sea creature which swallowed the psalter are visible at the lower right edge. Panel 8a shows the miraculous return of the psalter.
