This panel merges two stories, one by Bede and the other by an anonymous author. In Bede’s story a three-year-old child tells Cuthbert off for playing in a manner that did not befit his future status as a bishop. The toddler is shown on the right, dressed in white. Rather than the games described by Bede, Cuthbert is showing performing the miracle from the other story, where he does a handstand, but his robes remain upright to protect his dignity.
