On the extreme left edge of A4 the enthroned figure of King Herod instructs his soldiers to murder the children, two of whom are impaled on the soldiers’ swords. In A5 the children’s mothers try to intercede for their lives, unsuccessfully, as three more impaled children are depicted at the top of the panel. Apart from the somewhat confusing restoration of Herod in A4, the panels remain very legible.
