William’s first healing miracle, which is dated to 1177, concerned a young girl who had been blind for seven years. During a vigil at William’s tomb, she had a vision of a man, venerably attired and of dazzling brightness, who touched her eyes; and she regained her sight. The panel shows William in full archiepiscopal garb and holding his cross-staff, with rays of light emanating from him. Here the scene is placed outside, not at the tomb, as stated in the Life.
