Saint William appears dramatically in a vision and saves a ship with a broken mast from being driven onto a rocky shore. Two merchants seated beside a barrel containing their goods throw up their hands in amazement. A third man can just be seen in profile next to the broken stump of the mast. No such incident is mentioned in the surviving miracle stories, but a hymn to Saint William praises him for his help to sailors.
