Row 1 depicts members of the baronial family of Ros of Hamlake (Helmsley), arranged from left to right in ascending order of seniority. Originally, an inscription probably ran across the base of the panels, but nothing survives. Here, two men in plate armour kneel in attitudes of prayer. Their surcoats bear the family arms, gules three water bougets argent, differenced by the addition respectively of a mullet (or star) and a trefoil, for Robert and Richard, fourth and fifth sons of William, 6th Lord Ros.
