The new pope is seated on the papal throne as two cardinals wearing liturgical vestments place the triple tiara on his head. He wears a pallium. Two other cardinals to left and right robed in blue participate in the ceremony. Pope Eugenius, a Cistercian and a former monk of Clairvaux under St Bernard, became pope in February 1145.
