Henry of Blois (this time in episcopal garb) gives William a pair of exquisitely ornate spurs. William asks Henry if God has revealed to him that William is about to go on a long journey. He tells the bystanders not only that his opponents are dead, but that one of the cardinals who had previously supported him during the election dispute is the new pope.
