Passing through Canterbury, William (again with mitre and pallium) meets the archdeacon of Canterbury, Roger of Pont-l’Évêque (robed in blue). William is accompanied by a cleric with a satchel and a layman with a red hat. Behind Roger are a layman and two monks of Canterbury, identifiable by their monastic tonsures. William announces that Roger will succeed him as archbishop of York.
